Topic 6 - Legal Framework

The use of platforms and new technologies in the ocean for the development of knowledge as well as for monitoring and surveillance improved significantly in the recent years. However, neither the international nor the domestic law provide the appropriate legal framework in order to safeguard the interests of the States, on one hand, and the interests of the research institutions or companies involved, on the other hand.

Existing international and national legal systems were scrutinized and solutions are proposed to fill legal gaps and eliminate barriers to technological development, operation and innovation in a sustainable environment.
